Indian operators seek to pre-empt Jio, but Telenor set to exit

This will be a year of rapid change and consolidation in India as the operators gear up for the entry of Reliance Jio. Jio may have given its established rivals some breathing space by repeatedly delaying its 4G launch, but it will certainly be a force to be reckoned with when it does come to market later this year, with its impressive list of spectrum assets and infrastructure partnerships, and the major MNOs are starting to take pre-emptive action, accelerating their own 4G roll-outs and looking at merger options.

A new and powerful national 4G player will make it even harder to survive in this price-sensitive and overcrowded market, and several smaller operators can be expected
